How To Get The Job You REALLY Want
I’ve seen people on Facebook desperately throwing out the plea to all their friends that they need a job … and I’ve received another email just now from someone else needing help too. I’ve never been in the position that these two people have of needing a job so much that you’ll ask simply anyone … and I really feel for them!

I’ve been blessed to have always had the knowledge that making a DECISION about what job I really wanted has always led me to the right position … and to take it further, I’ve usually simply MADE A DECISION to create a business out of doing what I really love to do too.
My answer to the first person who enquired about getting a job was:
- By asking everyone you know with a proactive attitude – you will attract some attention.
- By getting PRECISELY CLEAR about exactly what job you want - you will get closer to the mark.
- By asking the people who can REALLY HELP you (like an employment agency or prospective employers directly) – you will hit the target.
Then last night I was reading Napoleon Hills’ classic book Think & Grow Rich and came to a part that descibes the process of getting the job you really want in more detail which I have slightly re-written to keep it pertinent to todays market.
-
1. Decide EXACTLY what kind of a job you want. If the job doesn’t already exist, perhaps you can create it.
2. Choose the company, or individual for whom you wish to work.
3. Study your prospective employer, as to policies, personnel, and chances of advancement.
4. By analysis of yourself, your talents and capabilities, figure WHAT YOU CAN OFFER, and plan ways and means of giving advantages, services, developments, ideas that you believe you can successfully deliver.
5. Forget about “a job.” Forget whether or not there is an opening. Forget the usual routine of “have you got a job for me?” Concentrate on WHAT YOU CAN GIVE.
6. Once you have your plan in mind, arrange with an experienced writer to put it on paper in neat form, and in full detail (or write it in a professional manner yourself).
7. Present it to the proper person with authority and they will do the rest. Every company is looking for people who can give something of value, whether it be ideas, services, or “connections.”
Every company has room for the person who has a definite plan of action which is to the advantage of that company. This line of procedure may take a few days or weeks of extra time, but the difference in income, in advancement, and in gaining recognition will save years of hard work at small pay. It has many advantages, the main one being that it will often save from one to five years of time in reaching a chosen goal. Every person who starts, or “gets in” half way up the ladder, does so by deliberate and careful planning.
Here is a good plan, which I have unconsciously followed all my life. If you want a job you can be happy with and will earn a good income – this is a tried and true method for obtaining it. The next step is up to you.
