What Do You Intend To Achieve This Year, This Month, This Day?
I spent my New Years Eve much differently to how I would have intended, had I actually set a specific intention.
I’ve been using a process where at the beginning of each day I set my intentions – the instructions suggested that I make them small and easily achievable so I get to feel successful. For some people an intention might be simply to “get out of bed” or “go to work feeling happy”. For me, I tend to go to extremes so I can FEEL significant. My intention for New Years Eve was to “add massive value to the world”.
That night, I slept on the floor of a friends hospital room (he’s elderly, had been injured in a fall, suffering with Dementia and was in a great deal of pain, both mentally and physically, could only walk a few short steps with the aid of a “walker”, was dribbling from the side of the mouth and barely coherent, looking pale, unshaven and disorientated). The doctor had prescribed Valium to calm him after a severe aggressive outburst because he was restrained in bed and couldn’t get up to go to the toilet as he normally would have. I was deeply concerned his condition would worsen to the point he would not leave the hospital alive so I maintained a position of guard beside his bed, requested that the Valium be stopped and talked with him about changing his thoughts.
In the morning he asked me what we would do for the day. When I asked him what he wanted to do he replied by saying he really wanted to go home. I told him that I supported his goal 100% but that I would NOT sign him out of the hospital and that HE would have to PROVE to the medical staff that he was MORE THAN CAPABLE to be going home today. He had three hours to prepare himself by changing his outward appearance and his reactions of “groaning about the pain”.
Miracles do happen. We gave him a bath and together we worked on re-framing his thoughts and the way he talked about his condition. As a consequence, his behaviour changed dramatically and when the doctor arrived to assess his situation he was given permission to “go home” with the doctors blessing. Of course there is much more to this story, but the gist of it is this – if you set an intention and you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it, the power that is sets in motion leaves the space open for miracles to occur. Work with your capabilities NOT with your limitations and together we can raise the level of what other people believe is possible.
I achieved my intention of adding massive value to the world that day, yet I also take the time to set smaller intentions too. There is really NO intention that is better or bigger than another, the benefit is in continuing to create opportunities to feel successful … try it for yourself.

Is Dementia A Disease Or A Habit?
CASE STUDY
My friend was diagnosed with Dementia.
He suffered a fall a week ago, injured his back and was hospitalized to recover. On the first night he was there the staff restrained him by putting the sides up on his bed. They were doing what they thought was right and in accordance with basic medical procedures. In pain and under the influence of whatever drugs they had chosen to pump into him for the night, he called out angrily to be let out of bed so he could go to the toilet (as he normally would). I was told that it took 4 people to restrain him, he was injured physically yet again during the process of being restrained and then they sedated him VERY heavily to PUT A STOP to his “aggressive behaviour”.
Please note – as with anything, I am telling the story from one perspective – the one I have heard from other people involved and some of the nursing staff. There are OFTEN other issues that we might not be aware of that have also contributed to the situation so this story is to be taken simply as ONE part to the whole truth.
I can completely understand how my friend must have felt. He has always been a fairly fit and mostly active man and must have been so confused by what was happening to him and around him. I can also understand the procedures that the hospital staff must adhere to in order to operate with 3 staff for every 30 patients in this small country town in Australia. It’s just “the normal thing” that to think that CONTROL is the best form of operating smoothly, so I have no issues with the hospital or the staff – in fact MOST of them are unbelievably compassionate and caring.
So, I’ve now left my comfortable and luxurious life and packed everything I need in the car and driven 7 hours north to be with my friend who is in hospital … I’m currently sleeping on the hospital floor. I came prepared and brought along some bedding – as I wanted to be able to do as much as possible to assist everyone involved in this all too common situation.
Since I have been with him in hospital now for about 60 hours or so, there has been incredible improvement in this ‘so-called’ medical condition. We are now in the happy process of proving that:
“…dementia is NOT some random incident that just HAPPENS to certain elderly people, it has partly to do with a number of contributing factors …
…THEIR OWN negative mental attitude (asking things like “why did this happen to me?” simply doesn’t work. Read “Change The Way You Think – empowering questions to ask yourself” to find out what would be better),
…Lack of mental and physical stimulation,
…Loss of “faith that there’s a greater purpose to life (not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel),
…The way we treat these patients using traditional medical practices (once hospitalized, they are usually prescribed something like Valium and restrained to control their desire to have their freedom – I reckon I’d exhibit signs of dementia if you did that to me too).
…The way we treat these people by working with their so-called limitations instead of their capabilities. For example, I let my friend do everything he could to dress, feed and clean himself no matter how long it took and only assisted where necessary. When someone else tended to him, his food was cut up much like you would do for a very young child with the assumption that he couldn’t do it for himself – that was that persons belief and not close to the reality of the situation at all.
We now have him off the medication after I stood my ground with the head doctor. He’s quit cold turkey and has freedom of movement in his physical body as well as his mind – and much less pain (seems silly doesn’t it). I’ve also worked on helping him change his negative focus to a more life enhancing one. We’re having more fun that ever before.
I’m sure there are other people doing work like this. It’s not rocket science – it’s basic common sense, but I must tell you, I am incredibly, incredibly, incredibly grateful to Anthony Robbins and the Strategic Intervention training. It’s helped me be so incredibly clear about what to do to change thoughts, words and behaviour in, not only myself, but in the people around me – should they wish to make any changes. Now that’s something worth working for.
But there is a lesson to be learned here if we are to care for the elderly people in our family, our community, our society or our culture.
Take some time and decide what you want your future to be like right up until your death. Don’t pretend that you’re never gonna die like most people do. Talk about it, not in a morbid way, but as if death is simply another stage of growth. Plan your life in accordance with your desires … and most of all, take care of the elderly in your family because you might be just like them one day – and I wonder how you’ll feel then!

Change the way you think – Empowering Questions To Ask Yourself
Thinking is the process of asking and answering questions. Have you heard that concept before? I’ll say it again. THINKING IS THE PROCESS OF ASKING AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS. Think about it … now, if you just thought about that, you just had to ask yourself a question.
Whether you believe it or not, we are asking and answering questions every moment of the day. The QUALITY of the questions determines the quality of our answers and also determines the meaning we give to our experiences. For instance, if you keep asking yourself, “why did this have to happen to me?” depending on your life circumstances, your answer will be something like this, “I must have deserved this”, “it’s God’s will” or “I must be a really bad person”.
Instead of asking WHY (which is a question that just takes you round and round in circles), why not ask yourself a more supportive question, one that will give you a much more life enhancing response? Ask yourself this, “Because this situation has happened, what NOW could I do to make this better?” “How could I learn something really valuable from this experience?” “What new thoughts could I choose so I can be of EVEN GREATER value to the people around me?”
POOR QUESTIONS Vs QUALITY QUESTIONS
If you ask a question like, “when will I ever learn?” or “when will this get better?” depending on your life circumstances again, your answer will be something like this, “never” or “I don’t know”. Ask this question instead, “when am I gonna do something about this?” Asking questions like these empowers you to take responsibility for your life … because the truth is, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR LIFE – not the government, not your parents, not your boss and not even God – you are the soul director on this journey of your life.
YOUR VIEW OF LIFE
I used to be one of the many people who lived their life by asking the common question, “What’s In It For Me?” Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, but just in case you haven’t noticed, we live on this earth with other people as well, and asking a question like that keeps our energy focused selfishly inside us.
These days I ask 2 questions that give me more energy than I could have ever imagined was possible and make me feel so fulfilled, I’m bursting with JOY! These NEW questions are the ones that ALL the most successful and happy people I know are asking themselves on a regular basis and also form the foundation of this entire website …

WHY NOT?
For the last 22 years I’ve been reading and studying all sorts of books, going to seminars and workshops and doing training courses on personal growth, making changes to the physical body and the psychology of the mind. Like many people I know who’ve been on a similar path, we’ve only used a fraction of what we’ve learned.

I knew that when I talked to people about what I was learning that it would ignite a fire inside of me – a passion – and 2 weeks ago I decided to do something about it.
One of my great mentors in the earlier years, Robert Kiyosaki (and many others also) would advise, “teach what you need to learn”. Well, the thought entered my mind, “I don’t know enough to be able to teach this”. One of the excuses that held me back from moving forward was the crazy thinking that says, “you’re NOT GOOD ENOUGH to teach this!”
I made an instant decision to recognize that thought as being negative and decided to ask a quality question instead, “Why Not? If not me who? If not now, when?
WHY NOT ask yourself “why not” instead of the circular argument of asking “why”. I wonder how much better your responses will be.
As Tony Robbins would say, “The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the quality of the questions you ask yourself!” Prove it for yourself. I certainly have. What about you?

Affirmations And Incantations
According to Napoleon Hill’s Classic, “Think And Grow Rich”,
FAITH is the “eternal elixir” which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought!
We’ve been told throughout the ages that we should have faith in this or that, but until I read this book, I wasn’t clear that faith is actually something you can induce, or even how that might be possible. In fact he clearly states, FAITH IS A STATE OF MIND WHICH MAY BE INDUCED BY AUTO-SUGGESTION (or affirmations).
It is a well known fact that one comes, finally, to BELIEVE whatever one repeats to one’s self, whether the statement be true or false. If a man repeats a lie over and over, he will eventually accept the lie as truth. Moreover, he will BELIEVE it to be the truth. Every man is what he is, because of the DOMINATING THOUGHTS which he permits to occupy his mind.
Hill also goes on to teach us that;
Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve consciously used affirmations at times throughout my life and never really experienced much success UNTIL I used a slight variation of affirmations as suggested by Tony Robbins. He says to activate your body as well as your mind and he renames this method of developing faith as “using incantations”.
I find this method EXTREMELY powerful and just to show you exactly what I’m talking about here is a video taken at the end of an Anthony Robbins seminar. Let me know what you think of its effectiveness.
How To Make Lasting Changes
When making any lasting changes in your life, three things must occur for them to be truly permanent. Sometimes they happen naturally, but most often we need to activate our conscious intentions on each of these levels:
1. You must improve the way you THINK about your past problems.
2. You must improve the way you SPEAK about your past problems.
3. You must allow your NEW ACTIONS to speak louder than your words.
If you are having difficulties in changing your thoughts, you might like to try this in the reverse order. For example, if you are complaining about not having enough money and you want to experience abundance, change an ACTION like perhaps giving money away in a way you’ve never done before, then TALK about what you’ve done (in a positive way of course) and pretty soon your THOUGHTS will change to those that naturally experience more abundance.
Here are some other useful ideas to help you on your way.
STOP beating yourself up for having problems! Feeling guilty or bad about yourself just DOESN’T work and never has.
STOP telling yourself you’re not good enough, not strong enough, not rich enough, not thin enough, not smart enough … or any other negative comment about yourself … it is self destructive to talk like that about yourself … just stop doing it!
STOP telling everyone about your problems, the sympathy and attention you get might be more important to you than getting rid of the actual problem – watch out very carefully for this.
STOP listening to the news, sad songs, horrible stories and watching bad stuff on television. This stuff sticks to your unconscious mind. Why do you think corporations pay such high prices to advertise? Because they know that your mind can easily be manipulated when you are relaxed.
STOP spreading gossip and bad news. Making other people feel bad does NOT make you feel better. It is destructive to your relationship with others and your relationship with yourself.
STOP hanging around people who have bad habits, negative attitudes and destructive lifestyles. You are only as good as the company you keep.
START doing things that make you feel good. People are more motivated to change when they are happily engaged in enjoyable activities.
START telling yourself you are good enough, strong enough, rich enough, thin enough, smart enough … or any other positive comment about yourself … it is healthy to have a positive self image, even if you don’t believe it yet … just start doing it!
START telling people ONLY the good stuff that’s happening in your life. If you can’t think of something good to say, don’t say anything at all and ask other people to tell you something good that’s happened to them too. Pretty soon you’ll get the hang of it.
START taking care of your mind. Be conscious of the “small thoughts” that are destructive to your growth and change them as soon as you realize them, meditate, read uplifting books, watch only happy shows, listen to more good stories.
START taking care of your body, choose a bit healthier food each day, go to the gym occasionally, ride a bike, take more walks in nature, go to the beach, treat yourself well by having a massage or doing some exercise that makes you feel good, (Sex is often good for this as long as it isn’t overused to the point of addiction).
START complimenting people for something nice, like the way they are dressed, their personality, their pleasant attitude etc. What you see in others, you’ll see in yourself.
START finding some new friends with healthy attitudes, lifestyles and bank balances. The good habits these people adopt will rub off on you.
