What Are YOU Afraid Of?

1 … Fear of Poverty: We get from life exactly what we ask from it. If we are driven by the fear of poverty, we will be thinking the thoughts of a poor person and, because of this, our thoughts, deeds, actions, habits and behaviors will not allow us to succeed.

2 … Fear of Criticism: Successful decisions are made on facts and not opinions. If you fear criticism, you will begin to make judgments using opinions instead of facts and, because of this your chances of success will be reduced.

3 … Fear of Ill Health: Every living thing wants to live and to live healthily. This is a primal need and, consequently, a fear that is very difficult to control. However, through applied faith and belief, it can be reduced.

4 … Fear of Loss of Love: A man will go to great lengths to please a woman, sometimes even sacrificing his family and his job for her. Therefore, this is a key fear that many men feel subconsciously. A woman will also go to great lengths to avoid losing the love of her children or her partner, often sacrificing her own needs in the process.

5 … Fear of Old Age: This is more of a mindset than a fear. People who are older may feel that time is against them or that they are simply too old to achieve anything. This fear prevents key characteristics like desire and perseverance from being used effectively.

6 … Fear of Death: This is our ultimate fear and is often only felt in dangerous situations. However, this fear has the power to take over the body, mind and our emotions – just think how your life would change if you were told you had only 6 months to live – and the Fear of Death was summoned to the front of your mind.

7 … Fear of Not Enough: Many of us pretend to be afraid that we aren’t good enough, there isn’t enough love, there’s not enough money, we don’t have enough skills or access to resources, we’re not old enough or young enough, we don’t have enough knowledge or power. These are NOT actual fears, but lies we tell ourselves as an excuse that keeps us living a life of mediocrity instead of excellence.

8 … Fear of Being Alone: A man or woman may use sex, money, children or threats to manipulate their partner into staying with them so they don’t have to face this fear. Some people may also choose to have children in order to placate the fear of being alone.

9 … Fear of Failure: How many times have we failed to act, to do something, to create something, to start something simply because we were afraid to fail? Fear of failing keeps us immobilized and prevents us from taking calculated risks which are a significant part of the natural growth process. Did you know that Edison failed 10,000 times before perfecting the incandescent electric light bulb? Some of the most successful and influential people in the world use failure as a springboard to making a difference in the world as this VIDEO clearly demonstrates. Change your thoughts of failing, stop speaking or listening to words of failing and STOP acting as if you are going to fail … instead, think as if you’re a winner, speak as if you already have what it is you seek, act as if what you want has already been achieved.

HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR

If we can face any of these fears and even DEFY them, we will then have the chance to experience success beyond our wildest dreams. They must be conquered or overcome on three levels for this to be sustainable:

  • THE LEVEL OF THOUGHT – Change your thoughts about what you are afraid of. Stop reading books, newspapers, magazines or articles that make your fear more pronounced, instead, do proper research about what you THINK you fear and find out how others have overcome the same challenges you face. Choose life-enhancing thoughts instead.
  • THE LEVEL OF CONVERSATION AND LANGUAGE – Don’t indulge in conversation in your mind, don’t write about how terrible your fears are and don’t talk with other people about your fears (some people get a thrill from being able to scare others with their own fears). Stop watching TV or movies that reinforce your fears. Don’t listen to or sing songs that perpetuate the thought of fear. FEAR is very close to EXCITEMENT on the tone scale. Think about whether you may have misrepresented the description of what you are REALLY feeling … perhaps it is actually excitement. Then, speak about people who have overcome their fears. Watch videos of successful people defying their fears and acting with courage and bravery. Remember the times you acted with courage too and talk to other people about them.
  • THE LEVEL OF HABIT AND BEHAVIOR – Decide to be courageous and bold. Face your fears and look them straight in the eye. Examine the motive behind the fear. What you resist persists; what you look at disappears!
  • The first 6 fears have been modified from Think and Grow Rich By Napoleon Hill. The last 3 fears and the method used to overcome fear, have been added based on my own experiences.
